Another snippet from the new story: "Over a year later, church officials do not feel a mass exodus of congregations is as threatening today." My list is up to 35 from the time of PUP approval, June 2006. A few more started the exodus just before PUP, that I wonder if they were related.
Does Joan really believe this? Does she just say this for good PR? Is she saying this to bolster the fight? Start Trek did many shows on alternative realities, I did not think Joan actually would prove it.

She's preaching to the choir again...
To the PCUSA loyalist crowd, that is.
I'm not so sure her perceptions are wrong. Most (loyalist) worst case scenarios had a hundred or more churches leaving. This has not materialized. And indeed, most of the issues that provoked discontent are now "old news". Yes, there is still plenty of anger and mistrust ... but it no longer seems that this will prompt action. (To say it has abated is clearly not correct ... but to say mass exodus of congregations is less threatening today may be correct.)
I not sure that the same number don't want to leave (more than 100), or that fear has driven many of them underground? I know of at least a few in EOP that are in hiding, until the Kirk case is resolved. This certainly show how EOP implements "Jesus is Love" (NOT)!
